The Wayne State University College of Education Alumni Association will host its second annual summit, "Race to the Top: Educators Reclaiming our Profession," for alumni, administrators, teachers, professional support staff and parents in the tri-county area. Robert C. Bobb, emergency financial manager for Detroit Public Schools, will deliver remarks and Keith Johnson, president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers, will deliver the morning keynote address. A panel of noted educators and leaders will join Johnson. A continental breakfast and lunch are provided. The event is free and State Board continuing education units (SBceus) will be given to participants who attend for the day.

Make your picks for who will win the NCAA Division I men's college basketball tournament and, if you're lucky, you might just win some cool prizes, including Pistons tickets and Wayne State gear.  Registered participants will be e-mailed a tournament bracket with instructions on March 15.  Updated score sheets will be emailed following the conclusion of each round.
There is no fee; however, participants must be a current Wayne State student, faculty, staff, graduate or alumni association member with a valid e-mail address. One entry is allowed per person per e-mail address.

The College of Nursing Alumni Association is hosting a pain management lecture from 4 - 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Richard Cohn Building, College of Nursing's Lounge Room 119, 5557 Cass Avenue in Detroit. The lecture, presented by April Vallerand, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, will provide an update on the issues in pharamcologic management of chronic pain. The activity has been submitted to the Ohio Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. The Ohio Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture with Ron Gettelfinger

Ron Gettelfinger was elected to a second term as president of the UAW on June 14, 2006. Under his leadership, the UAW has fought for fair trade agreements that include provisions for workers' rights, and national, accessible and affordable single-payer healthcare. In 2006, Gettelfinger called for a "Marshall Plan" to renew America's industrial base through incentives to manufacture energy-saving advanced technology vehicles and their key components in the United States.
