ISAAC Round Table on African American Education

The Institute for the Study of the African-American Child (ISAAC) will host a weekend of events that aims to find innovative solutions to closing the academic achievement gap affecting African-American children beginning Friday, July 16.

The weekend kicks off at 6 p.m. with a VIP reception at the Marriott Hotel in the Renaissance Center. Saturday's events include a keynote address by Dr. Geneva Gay, an author and professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of Washington, Seattle. The address will be followed by a round table discussion at the Student Center Building, 5221 Gullen Mall.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Student Center. A soul food jazz buffet featuring the Brandon Parker Trio will follow the round table discussion at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

Cost for the VIP reception is $75, $100 for the round table discussion and an additional $35 for the buffet. Hotel accommodations are available at the Marriott Hotel in the Renaissance Center for $129 a night plus tax, or at the Inn on Ferry Street on Wayne State's campus for $109 a night.
