Bob Woodward Speaks at FOCIS Event

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward explores the dynamics of the press and the presidency during the second installment of the Forum On Contemporary Issues In Society on Thursday, April 10.

Woodward, described by the Wall Street Journal as "the most celebrated journalist of our age," will present the lecture The Presidency from Nixon to Bush.

Woodward, a reporter and editor at The Washington Post since 1971, has written or co-authored 10 New York Times No. 1 bestsellers – more than any other contemporary American writer.

He also was the main reporter for The Post’s articles on the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks; his articles won won a Pulitzer Prize in 2002. Woodward first gained popular attention while reporting with Post colleague Carl Bernstein on a 1972 break-in at Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington’s Watergate Hotel; their now-famous inquiry revealed a trail of political shenanigans that eventually brought down the presidency of Richard M. Nixon.

Woodward and Bernstein’s investigation was chronicled in the best-seller All The President’s Men, which was made into a film starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Wayne State’s Community Arts Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Click here to make a reservation. For more information, visit www.focis.wayne.edu.

After the event, stick around for the Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series. Dr. Connie Calloway, Detroit Public Schools superintendent, will speak at noon at Alumni House.
