Commemorate 15 Years at ALJUP Lecture

Celebrate Detroit with the Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series: Detroit, a City Upon a Hill on Thursday, Nov. 13.

They called it a “city upon a hill.” In 1630, Puritan John Winthrop predicted his Massachusetts Bay Colony would be just that, and admired by all. The same can happen in Detroit. Celebrate 15 years of this award-winning lecture series with a panel of former speakers who discuss the issues and opportunities facing Detroit’s own ascension to be a city upon a hill. The series also marks the publication of Dr. Johnson’s memoir, Race and Remembrance, which will be available for purchase.

Confirmed speakers include, Graham Beal, director and CEO, Detroit Institute of Arts; Connie Calloway, superintendent for the Detroit Public Schools; David DiChiera, director general, Michigan Opera Theatre; Saul Green, Detroit deputy mayor; Paul Hillegonds, senior vice president for corporate affairs, DTE Energy; Hon. Damon J. Keith, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; Samuel Logan, editor, Michigan Chronicle; and Cynthia Pasky, president, Strategic Staffing Solutions.

The event begins at 11 a.m. at the Spencer Partrich Auditorium, Law School. The lecture is free, but reservations are required.
