See the Tigers in Florida
Come out to the ball park to make new friends and cheer on the Detroit Tigers as they take on the Atlanta Braves during spring training in Lakeland, Fla., on Sunday, March 29.
We are hosting a picnic lunch as part of this Wayne State alumni trip to see alumni and friends in Florida. The event begins at noon at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.
Tickets are $35 per person and include a picnic lunch and a reserved seating ticket to the game. We’ll have some great raffle prizes (like a Sanders Hot Fudge dessert basket) and a chance to win tickets to a regular season game back in Detroit.

New License Plate Shows Wayne State Support
Show your Warrior pride with the redesigned Wayne State University license plate now available from the Michigan Secretary of State.
The plate features the university's new graphic W that is easy to recognize and immediately identifies you as a Wayne State supporter.
These special fundraising plates cost $35, and Wayne State receives $25 of that fee. The money raised – between $25,000 and $35,000 annually – is donated to the Wayne State University Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Success Workshop With Actor Jeffrey Tambor
Join Wayne State alumnus and actor Jeffrey Tambor for his critically acclaimed workshop at the DreamWorks Animation studio in Glendale, Calif., on Saturday, March 21. Alumni receive special pricing of only $215 per ticket – an $85 savings.
“What’s Keeping You? A Workshop for Personal and Professional Success” examines what’s keeping people from their dreams. It looks at fear and self-doubt, which often prevent people from reaching their creative goals. Tambor helps people identify their unique challenges and provides tools and technique to overcome those challenges.
Tambor, who appeared in numerous TV and film roles, including Arrested Development, shares his unique perspective through honest discussions and personalized demonstrations that provide a revelatory experience for actors, writers, directors and anyone who wants to be better at what they do. Tambor has held his workshop at universities, hospitals and corporations throughout the country.

Job Fair is March 13 Wayne State Alumni are encouraged to attend the Michigan Collegiate Job Fair on Friday, March 13.
More than 120 employers are expected to be there. The Michigan Collegiate Job Fair is a state-wide event supported by four-year Michigan universities that provides assistance to students and alumni seeking professional employment.
The event will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Burton Manor Conference Center in Livonia. Registration is $10 in advance or $20 at the door. Click here to make a reservation.

Alumni Lecture Features Leonard Slatkin Save the date for the Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series featuring Leonard Slatkin on Tuesday, March 24.
Slatkin, music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, is an internationally renowned American conductor who has made appearances with virtually every major international orchestra. His recordings have garnered seven Grammy awards and more than 60 nominations.
The Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series began in 1992, and was named by the alumni association in 1995 to honor civil rights leader Dr. Arthur L. Johnson upon his retirement as vice president for university relations at Wayne State University. The series offers an opportunity to hear thoughtful and interesting commentaries on a wide range of subjects such as politics, business, economics, law and the arts.
The lecture begins at noon in Alumni House. It is free and open to the public.

Volunteer at Grad Expo Be a part of Grad Expo! Volunteers are needed to recruit new grads to join the alumni association.
You'll have a chance to meet some of the graduates who will walk during the May commencement ceremonies and tell them about alumni association membership benefits. Students attend Grad Expo to pick up their caps, gowns and commencement tickets, as well as buy class rings, diploma frames and other merchandise.
Grad Expo will take place in the Welcome Center, at Warren and Woodward, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. April 17. Alumni volunteers should specify their preferred shift. They'll also receive a special alumni association sweatshirt and free parking in the Welcome Center structure at Cass and Putnam.

Women of Wayne Hosts Spring Events FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON
The Grosse Pointe chapter of Women of Wayne will host its annual fashion show and luncheon on Saturday, March 14.
Enjoy complimentary mimosas and a silent auction. Lunch will be served at noon and is followed by the fashion show featuring fashions by Coldwater Creek.

An Evening With David Sedaris Join WDET for an evening of laughs with author and humorist David Sedaris on Tuesday, April 21.
Sedaris will be reading from his latest book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, as well as exclusive, unpublished works about his life and family.

Graduate School Offers Open House
Learn about the master's degree you always wanted and apply for admission at no charge at Wayne State's Graduate School Open House on Thursday, March 12.
Admissions and program representatives will be on hand to review applications and advise applicants. The $50 application fee will be waived for on-site participants. The Graduate School offers more than 60 doctoral degrees, 139 master's degrees and 32 certificate, specialist and professional programs. Click here for an application.
The open house is from 3-7 p.m. at the WSU Welcome Center. Parking is free in Structure 6, which is located behind the Welcome Center. Bring your ticket stub for validation.

CareerBoost: Leaders on Leadership Attend CareerBoost: Case Studies from the television series Leaders on Leadership - it’s a tough world out there! on Wednesday, April 1.
This interactive event, presented by Larry Fobes, host of the Emmy Award-winning television show Leaders on Leadership, calls on the expertise of former guests. Watch clips of past guests, such as Paul O’Neill, former secretary of treasury; Dieter Zetsche, former president and CEO of Chrysler; and Alfred Taubman, founder of the Taubman Co. and former chair of Sotheby’s, then explore a variety of related leadership issues in the context of your own career.

ISAAC Hosts Conference on Research Directions
The Institute for the Study of the African-American Child will host the Conference on Research Directions, a biannual event designed to bridge the gap between research and practice in education May 3-6.
All researchers and practitioners interested in the latest strategies for closing the academic achievement gap that affects African American children should attend. The conference will be held at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

CLAS Goes to the DIA Join the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Association for a night at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Friday, March 13.

Dr. Suzanne Bakken, alumni professor of nursing and professor of biomedical informatics at Columbia University, will deliver the keynote address at noon at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.
